Inspiring photography workshops, courses & tours

Find out what others say about our workshops and tours . . .

I had an absolutely wonderful time - everything was faultless (except possibly the weather on the last afternoon!), I was really impressed with Jersey and got a huge amount out of the photography under Andy's expert tuition. I have received many plaudits on the photos from friends and family and I can't wait to come again!

I just came back from an 8 day Brittany Lighthouse Workshop organized by Fototonic and led by Andy Habin. It was educational, enjoyable and productive time. The workshop was well organized in terms of photoshoot locations, transportation, and overnight stays in quaint small town hotels and bed and breakfasts. The instructor, Andy was very knowledgeable about locations, tides, compositions, cameras, computers and post processing and was very friendly and accommodating. I was there with a small group, some of which came for the second or third time. I hope to attend one of their workshops in a near future. I highly recommend Fototonic and Andy.

We took a photo workshop tour to photograph the lighthouses of Jersey and Brittany with Andy Habin. Andy is an exceptionally good photographer who has exceptional artistic and compositional talent. He has outstanding technical knowledge of cameras and post capture editing. Andy was a kind and patient teacher who knew exactly how to impart complex photographic ideas to his students. He was also extremely interesting and good fun to be with. The tour was extremely well organised and ran like clockwork. Transport was in Andy’s Toyota land cruiser which he drove very safely. The hotels were all very pleasant, and we moved from photo venue to hotel to photo venue seamlessly. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour, which enabled us to learn a huge amount of photographic skills, and to obtain some very good images. We certainly plan to go on more photographic tours with Andy and Fototonic in the future. We would certainly recommend Fototonic and Andy to anyone who wants to have an enjoyable holiday, enhance their photographic skills and come home with some superb photographs.

Dear Tricia, I can’t thank you and Andy enough for a memorable four days in Jersey. It was a long way from California to Jersey but well worth the effort. Your knowledge of the best and most interesting locations for photography was both impressive and instrumental in our getting the most out of the trip. Prior to working with Andy, I thought I knew a lot about my 5D MK3. It didn’t take him long to show me some aspects about the camera’s functions that I had either ignored or really didn’t understand. He completely changed the way I took photos over the balance of our vacation and will continue to influence how I shoot from here on out. Going forward, low light photography will no longer be the challenge it once was. Thanks again. David

Andy was an expert and excellent guide for the Big Tides tour, combining local knowledge with deep technical and practical experience. He adapted the days to cater to what our small group was most interested in, which was much appreciated. His knowledge of the island also really helped when coping with the varied weather. The highlight of the trip was definitely the RIB trip out to Les Ecrehous for sunset and high tide - wonderful.

Fototonics Big Tide Photo tour was over way too quickly! Covering a ton of locations and an amazing trip to an offshore reef, the only thing that wasn't top notch was the weather! Andy is a very knowledgable chap, a great teacher and all round nice bloke. Despite me being a long term user of Lightroom and Photoshop, Andy still managed to come up with a few tips and tricks that will make a big difference to my images too. His insight into the history of the island and especially the World War 2 artifacts that litter the countryside really brought the land to life. Although we covered a lot of the island on this short trip, I can only feel I've just scratched the surface...still, a good excuse to return trip!

I very much enjoyed the Jersey tour with Fototonic. I learnt a great deal from how to use and get the best out of my camera to some really interesting ways to look at a scene and shoot it. Andy was very helpful and patient, and genuinely wanted to help me achieve some good results with my photography. He has a great spirit and is good fun, he and Tricia make a good team and they both made the whole experience very enjoyable.

I decided to start the year off with doing something a little imaginative and proactive. I saw the advert for the course on Jersey and booked up. What I got was a fantastic and inspiring weekend. Not only did I get an amazing and privileged insight to Jersey and its history, but also superb tuition to transform my photography. I am so grateful for the time and personal attention given by Andy and can thoroughly recommend Fototonic. An absolutely brilliant way to start the year off … ☺

Hi Andy - I just wanted to say thank you for a great Lowlight / Night Photography workshop yesterday. I learnt a great deal, especially about camera use. It was also great to be inspired to be creative. Many thanks, Pam

Pam Trehiou, jersey

Dear Tricia, just a little note to thank you for judging the competition last night. It was lovely to see you again - sadly it seems that as photographers like you become busy professionals, we see less of you at the club which is a real loss. You were very kind in your comments and critiques - just what "beginners" need and you also threw in lots of helpful tips for all of us. The icing on the cake was having Andy show us his images along with a fascinating insight into his night photography. Thanks again, with best wishes, Annette

Annette Tomkinson, Competition Secretary, Jersey Photographic Club

Hi Tricia. Thank you for a super three days. Now that I am back I want to do it all over again! I learnt so much and want to revisit the locations another time of the year and practise all you taught me. Your explanations were clear and appropriate at just the right pace to understand and implement. I would recommend the course to everyone interested in landscape photography. Being with Tricia is just like having your own personal coach and every question was answered and clarified simply. If you want a fun, jargon free, informative course then don't hesitate to sign up. Great to meet you. Many thanks, Hilary

Hi Andy - I thoroughly enjoyed the lowlight / night photography workshop last night. Learned such a lot. I'll definitely be shooting live view in the future. What I liked is you made it plain and simple and we were given so much individual attention it was brilliant. You are one of the best teachers I have had and I will definitely be booking tuition with you again. Best wishes, Sue

Sue Baudains, Jersey

Hi Tricia - I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the photography course. Highly educational for those who wish to understand all technical aspects of their DSLR and are keen to move away from shooting their photography in automatic modes. I cannot recommend Andy highly enough as course leader. He is a natural in conveying (in language that we can all grasp) the important technical skills that will produce better photography for the students. Thanks, Nick

Nick de Carteret, Jersey

Good morning Tricia, Just to say a very big “Thank You” to yourself and Andy for organizing a fabulous workshop. Andy was just superb with his explanation of theory and the use of my digital SLR, very clear and very concise. I was able to retain all the information given without having to take any notes!! Kind regards to both of you, Lloyd

Lloyd Mourant, Jersey

Hi, Just to let you know that I spent a lovely day yesterday and I learnt many things. Many thanks Andy for all these explanations and kindness. Regards, Alain

Alain Busigny, Jersey

Hi Tricia, I enjoyed the workshop on long exposures - thanks for the loan of your filters which helped demonstrate the technique using my 70 - 300 lens. When the light levels were low enough to use longish exposures using my wider lens I got some pictures that looked good and I also learnt many things about my camera which I hadn't realised, so all in all a useful workshop. Thanks for the follow-up email. Kind regards, Paul

Paul Herbert, Jersey

Hi Tricia, Many thanks for a brilliant three days, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it. I hope you have recovered from us all. I'm having a hard choice choosing images to put in the museum for our camera club exhibition and what photo to go on the wall at home, but I do have a portfolio for the next competition .....yay!! Thank you again, I cant wait to get back out with the wide angle here, we have some lovely countryside, and I might be able to finally do it some justice. Sam

Hi Tricia, Now that I'm back home, I wanted to write to say how much I enjoyed the workshop in May. Despite the awful weather, or perhaps because of it, I learned a lot about my photography. So for that I have to sincerely thank you for being so patient, positive and cheerful as well as inspirational to rekindle my enthusiasm for photography. I managed to return to all our locations in the days that followed and captured some more images which demonstrated what I had learnt during the workshop. When I have finished downloading and editing the images I will be sending you some which I hope you would be so kind as to critique if that is ok with you. I will come again. I loved the island and I loved the work we did. Thank you so much. Sincerely, Mike

I have been on a few of Tricia's workshops and find them very informative, fun and enjoyable. As always Tricia explains procedures clearly, in a language I can understand. Friday's workshop was for low light photography, long exposure. It wasn't the best of weather conditions at Corbiere but we all went ahead and came away with some great results and armed with some newly learned skills. A great group. Thank you Tricia, kind regards, Anita

Anita Brandon, Jersey

I live in Jersey for a long time, landscapes are fantastic everybody knows that, now after this workshop of today is going to be a lot easier for me to do long exposure. Tricia help us a lot. Highly recomended. Also the atmosfere of the class was great. Many thanks Tricia. Carlos D'Aires

I travel to Jersey regularly on business and all I ever got to see was the journey from the airport to St Helier. When I heard about these photography workshops, it seemed the perfect opportunity to stay on another few days in Jersey and join a workshop. I've always been interested in photography and I wanted to learn more creative techniques with my camera and learn more about composition. The workshop was amazing. I learnt more about photography in the three days than I had in the past three years. Tricia is an excellent tutor - she explains things clearly and took us to some stunning locations. It was also fun being with a group of like minded people. I am so pleased with my images from the September workshop and I even entered one of them in a competition in my local camera club (and it came 3rd!)

Matt Ingram, Dublin

Just a quick line to say thank you for such an enjoyable photography workshop. I am no longer in a haze or fearful of trying some different settings on my camera. You’ve inspired me to learn more and your way of explaining photography techniques and camera settings made it seem really simple. Thank you very much, Pat

Pat Fior, Jersey

Thanks Tricia for your patience and motivation. As an absolute beginner, I was somewhat nervous before today's course but I had no need to worry. I learned many new skills but more importantly you gave me the confidence to take things further. It was a great photography workshop. Many thanks and kind regards, Jan

Jan Ramsay, Jersey

Before attending Tricia's landscape photography workshop, all I knew about photography was to use my digital SLR camera in auto modes. Now I can confidently use all other manual modes and settings to get better photographs with more creativity, as taught by Tricia. Tricia is very competent, is very good with people and always approaches any question with an open mind. She is logical, methodical and very patient and I thank her for training and sharing her valuable experience with me. I wish her all the best and would love to work with her again.

Siddarth Ahlawat, Jersey

Tricia, thank you so much, a great workshop and a great teacher. I learnt everything I wanted to know, Tricia ran the workshop at just the correct pace for me to learn. I now have the confidence to use all of the settings on my camera, not just Auto. I also came away from the workshop with some great shots!!

Peter Bourke, jersey

I found the one-to-one landscape workshop to be an invaluable experience and a wonderful way to explore Jersey. Tricia is a great teacher - friendly, flexible and knowledgeable. But most importantly, she provided clear instruction on subjects, perfectly tailored to my level of experience. This left me with a clear path to improving my photography and a desire for more workshops! I would thoroughly recommend a workshop with Tricia, though would suggest organizing one for the start of your holiday rather than the end as I did!

Nigel De Silva, UK

I would like to thank you for the photographic tuition, I would recommend your Courses to anyone, who wishes to take better pictures. Plenty of time is spent with each pupil, to give a better understanding of camera techniques explained in a way, which anyone can understand.

Brian Luce, Jersey

Thank you for giving me more confidence in using my camera on a different setting other than the auto setting. Both the pace and the content of the workshop was great for me and covered more than I expected to learn. I have since put all this into practice this morning at daybreak with a wonderful sunrise and the camera set to manual, f-stops selected and the rest! . . . wow! Should you have any future courses, please think of me and I will gladly attend.

Georgie Ng, Jersey

I enjoyed the workshop very much and got a lot out of it. I found the pace about right and you managed to achieve the balance of theory, creativity and moments of spontaneity. I look forward to attending any other workshops you put on in the future.

Lallie Clarke, Jersey

I wanted to know the basics on how to use my digital camera and computer to produce good quality photos. Tricia provided me with a good understanding of how everything works and how composition is so important for that winning shot. Whilst some of the technical aspects can be difficult to grasp first time Tricia explained them well. Tricia is very knowledgeable and has an easy teaching style with enthusiasm that is infectious! Hence I have now joined the local photographic club and have aspirations to win a competition!
